Mouthguard Fitting and Disclaimer
Yes, your new mouth guard looks small before fitting.
For best results, use the two fitting process. The first fitting will be to widen the profile of the mouth guard. As the directions below state, start from the front and form it to your teeth profile. Don't bite too hard.
The second fitting, will be to get a firmer impression once you have the basic shape. You can bite a little harder on the second fitting. The material is softer than what you may have been using, but when you are done, it will be a lot more comfortable when rolling.
Do not leave the mouth guard in hot water for longer than described. It will turn into a gooey mess.
DIRECTIONS FOR FITTING:
- Remove mouthguard from wrapper and place in boiling water for 75 seconds, no longer.
- Remove mouthguard and rinse under cold water for 3 seconds or long enough such that it will not scald.
- Align the mouthguard in a mirror such that it is properly centered with your teeth.
- Start with your front teeth and push flat onto front teeth and then move back evenly on both sides pushing up onto teeth.
- TIP: In order to get the flattest profile in the front, pinch the mouthguard from the front and back onto teeth.
- Bite down on mouthguard while sucking tongue to the roof of your mouth for 30 seconds.
- Remove mouth guard and allow to cool.
- Check fit. If a repeat fitting is necessary, place in hot water for 45 seconds so the initial shape is not completely lost.
- Repeat steps 2 through 6.
